The Athletic Business released an article last month featuring the newly approved NCAA Playing Rules which go into effect at the start of 2027. Several changes to rules include revisions to fence heights and padding requirements for walls and backstops constructed of wood, concrete, or brick for both baseball and softball. These new requirements have certainly started discussions amongst our design team, and reflecting back on our recent work on the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City - host to the NCAA College World Series. Facility owners may want to revisit these new rules sooner than later, as the NCAA is giving 5 years for existing facilities to be brought up to code.
