Jake Ireland is one of our designers and dedicated drone pilot out of our Phoenix office. Outside of the office scene of working on various sports and civil projects, you can find Jake hitting the trails throughout Arizona. He enjoys mountain biking and running, and on the weekends you can find him on a 12-hour solo mountain bike race if there is one! But we wanted to highlight Jake with his recent accomplishment with his friends on completing the Black Canyon Ultras Marathon. This event is a 62 mile (100K) distance trail run, which Jake completed in 16 hours and 22 minutes, out of the 20 hour allotted time given to all racers. He finished 514 out of 704 racers that actually completed the course! Congratulations Jake! #lloyd #lloydsports #lloydsportsandengineering #lloydengineers #jakeireland #teammemberhighlight #civildesigner #sportsdesigner We love seeing our team members stay involved with their alma matter, especially giving back to the future engineers of our industry. This holds especially true for Sam Wise, PE, who is an alumni from the University of Nevada - Reno (UNR). See his recent involvement on the CREATE program, and his transition from land development to the sports engineering world.
-- Earlier this month , I had the privilege to sit on an engineering industry panel for the University of Nevada – Reno (UNR) College of Engineering. This panel was put together as part of the CREATE program: Creating Retention and Engagement for Academically Talented Engineers. This program funded by the National Science Foundation, supports students enrolled at the College of Engineering. Representing the Civil Engineer on the panel, I was joined by other in fields including software/computer science, mechanical engineering, materials science, aerospace, electrical engineering, and environmental engineering. In a classroom with about 30 upcoming graduates, we discussed what a new graduate can expect in the industry, how to approach interviews, work-life balance, remote vs in-person work, and more. Sharing our personal experiences of working in industry helps the students imagine what to expect when moving away from a full academic driven lifestyle. As an alumnus of UNR, graduating in the Fall of 2015, I quickly moved into the consulting industry with my first job as a civil designer in land development in December 2015. There I worked to obtain me PE license and sharpen my skills as a designer & engineer. I ended that role with transitioning over to Lloyd Sports + Engineering in September 2020, which utilizes a fully remote work environment. During the panel I was able to share my unique experience of going from an in-person work environment to one that is fully remote and discuss concerns that new graduates when entering the work industry. Events like this help usher the next generation of engineers to their future careers so that they may be better suited to serve themselves and the community. #lloyd #lloydsports #lloydsportsandengineering #sportsengineering #sportsdesign #sports #sportsplanning #engineering #engineers #nationalengineersweek #sportsengineer #UNR #UniversityofNevada #UniversityofNevadaReno #UNRAlumni #CREATE #futureengineers #academics #engineersweek #professionalengineer Happy National Engineers Week! Today were featuring our newest team member, Patrick Beazley, who comes all the way from Australia! Hear about his journey and interests into sports engineering!
A spark of curiosity when watching a cricket match about how the pitch was prepared, led me to applying the next day to join the curating team. I was studying Civil Engineering at The University of Queensland in Brisbane Australia at the time and started to see the potential to pursue a professional career in sports and engineering. It certainly wasn’t the most well paved career path for a Civil Engineer, so I’ve let my passion and curiosity drive my career interests and opportunities. I joined an engineering consultancy in Melbourne, that specialized in the design and construction of sports fields, where I worked for almost 6 years. In late 2022, I made the career changing decision to test myself on an international scale -joining the team at Lloyd Sports + Engineering. My career has seen me work with grass roots sports clubs, schools, communities, professional teams and stadiums across Australia, New Zealand and The United States. My engineering journey is led by curiosity and passion for sports field engineering. Utilizing my civil engineering trade to benefit communities and create spaces used for active lifestyles and play is extremely rewarding. #lloyd #lloydsports #sports #sportsengineering #sportsengineer #lloydengineers #lloydsportsandengineering #cricket #australia #melbourne #designandconstruction #international #sportsfields The National Society of Professional Engineers celebrates National Engineers Week from February 19th through the 25th. Resources on what NSPE is hosting for the week can be located here: https://www.nspe.org/resources/partners-and-state-societies/engineers-week. To start off our celebration of our engineers at Lloyd, we wanted to feature several of our staff and their take on being an engineer.
Tish Lance, Senior Designer and Director of IT with Lloyd shares the following... "I entered the Engineering field back in the early 90s. My career path was not typical in the industry. I started out with a Technical Diploma from Canada, worked as an engineering designer in Canada and the United states for many years. Rather than following the traditional path of drafter to designer to EIT and finally to PE, I held firm to my preferences to remain in the designer/EIT role. I knew I really enjoyed design and plan production, and had little interest in budgets, schedules, contracts, things that a PE spends a lot of their time handling. It may have appeared to an outsider that I wasn't growing and developing, but I found that I was able to really learn and hone my skills as a plan production lead. Eventually this path led me to my current position as Director of IT, which includes additional roles as Cad Manager and Production Lead. The lesson here is, do what makes you happy, not what other people tell you is next." Several of Tish's favorite engineer projects have included the Diamondbacks Chase Field Baseball Field Turf Conversion, UC Berkeley Cal Memorial Stadium Rebuild, Baltimore Ravens Turf to Grass Conversion, and the Diamondbacks/Rockie's Salt River Fields Spring Training Facility. #EIT #Lloyd #Lloydsports #sports #sportsengineering #NSPE #EngineersWeek #NationalEngineersWeek #Lloydengineering #lloydsportsandengineering #civilengineer #sportsengineer #engineeringdesigner #civildesigner #designing #dowhatmakesyouhappy Lloyd is in full design mode for Marysville High School Track and Field. The project will replace the existing decomposed granite track with a new all-weather 8 lane track and upgrade the natural grass field. Scheduled for completion in fall 2023 the new facility will be able to host larger track meets and sports events.
