A Site Visit Leads to Surprising Talent by Window Rock High School Students; Window Rock, AZ1/30/2023
A site visit last month by team member Jane Theobald to the Window Rock High School in northern Arizona, lead to a surprising find of talent displayed in the halls of the high school.
Lloyd is currently on the design team with SPS+ Architects to design a new football stadium for the school. The design team has been asked to brainstorm ideas for student contributions to the project from the Construction and Welding elective classes. While project sites are typically the responsibility of the hired contractor, and in this case, Core Construction, students will have an opportunity to engage and contribute their talent to help create this unique facility. As seen here, the amazing work from the welding students show an exemplary level of creativity and skillset! #Lloyd #LloydSports #LloydSportsandEngineering #SPSPlusArchitects #LloydEngineering #NFHS #HighSchools #ArizonaHighSchools #RuralSchools #WindowRock #WRHS #WindowRockHighSchool #Vocational #HighSchool #NorthernArizona #StudentTalent #Welding #Electives #Construction #Scouts Lloyd was part of the design/build team for the San Francisco 49er's Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara California. The project was led by HNTB Architects, and Lloyd provided design services for the stadium football field, field drainage, LEED submittals, and construction documentation. The natural grass turf began construction in 2012 and opened for the 2014 NFL season. The project achieved LEED Gold Certification.

Midway up a slope, and nestled in the dense pine trees, five existing tennis courts and a ball wall (pictured here) will receive a major facelift and added amenities. The proposed design will include three tennis courts and six new pickleball courts, maintaining the existing court footprints of the facility, as well as the sights and sounds of the fresh air and forest views. Design is underway with construction anticipating completion for summer of this year.

For Lloyd, we always aim to provide the greatest value and strive for the highest-quality field and facility that meets both client and end user expectations. At Dickinson State University in North Dakota, the Lloyd team designed the campus’ new softball facility, which is nearing completion and is gaining interest and popularity in the region. With tournaments for next spring already filling up the facility’s calendar, the new fields and associated amenities will be a valuable asset for the school and student athletes. The design team took the challenge of going beyond standard facility design norms and expectations to provide this state-of-the-art facility while still meeting the school’s budget and schedule. Did you know that Lloyd Sports, formerly as CMX Sports Engineers, was the lead sports engineer for the Arizona Cardinal's roll out field back in 2006? The Lloyd team led the design efforts for the innovative retractable natural grass field system for the stadium. Partnered with NY Architect, Peter Eisenman and HOK-SVE Architects, the stadium has been host to many football games, bowl games, concerts and events, and more. The stadium will once again host the upcoming 2023 Super Bowl. Fun fact: the tray weighs more than 12 million pounds.

From an initial grass to turf conversion which completed in 2003, to a secondary turf to grass re-conversion in 2015. The second conversion efforts included a complete playing surface engineering solution that incorporated the latest and greatest technology and safety features for a modern NFL caliber stadium.
Lloyd Sports + Engineering is excited to announce that Mr. Patrick Beazley has recently joined the Lloyd team this year. Mr. Beazley brings to Lloyd over a decade of sports engineering experience from Australia and New Zealand, including six years of civil and environmental engineering from one of Australia’s leading field of play civil design and engineering consulting firms. His experience also extends through a broad range of complex projects including development on landfill sites, floodplains, and within environmental constraints.
His technical expertise is supplemented by applied skills including a role as an assistant groundskeeper on the Brisbane Cricket Ground, one of Australia’s premier sporting venues. Mr. Beazley’s experience has uniquely placed him to understand the importance of quality design, documentation, and construction practices, and their impacts on day-to-day grounds management and event delivery. Several of his key projects include the Sydney Football Stadium, North Queensland Stadium, and Western Sydney Stadium – all of which are utilized by Australia’s top rugby and soccer clubs. Mr. Beazley’s initial assignment will be centered on the Phoenix market with projects for the Chandler Unified School District, leading technical and engineering sports design for the renovation of their six existing high school football stadiums. His international transition to Lloyd Sports + Engineering was inspired by a genuine passion for sports and sports field engineering; the challenge of working on projects in one of the most sports—centric countries in the world; and the quality of the projects Lloyd’s brand is synonymous with. Congrats to Lloyd's Civil & Sports Designer, Jake Lettieri for recently passing his FE, and is one step closer towards obtaining his PE. Lettieri joined Lloyd as a full-time member Spring of 2022, and started out as an intern post graduating from the University of Utah. He has recently moved back to the Bay area, servicing our Northern California and Nevada projects. Congrats Jake!
From all of us at Lloyd Sports + Engineering, wishing you and yours a wonderful start to 2023! Happy New Year!
