This Flashback Friday we bring you Tempe Union Schools in Arizona. The Lloyd Sports + Engineering team has been working closely with the Tempe Union High School District, AZ for the last few years in their track and field upgrades. Over the previous two years we finished four schools; McClintock, Corona Del Sol, Desert Vista and Tempe High School. This year we are working on two more; Marcos De Niza and Mountain Point. The district is getting a makeover one field at a time! Construction for the Clark Field track facility at St. Anthony High School in Long Beach is progressing nicely. Most recently the foundation for the new bleachers has been poured! We can't wait to see the bleachers go up. The final stages of construction are happening! Stay tuned for more updates.
Lloyd Sports + Engineering was asked to evaluate and redesign the surfacing for the Golden Bear Tennis Courts. A few concepts were studied showing half court basketball, tennis, pickleball and futsal court striping. The final selection optimized the size of the futsal court and aligned other sport striping to share lines. This project was small enough to be a maintenance project, so Lloyd worked with the school to define the different scopes for purchasing, thus expediting the renovation process. Go Bears!
Episode 4 of Crismon High School drone footage in Queen Creek, Arizona. School has officially begun. The classrooms, auditorium and gymnasium buildings are complete. The track surface is all ready for use and the grass is growing on the softball and baseball fields. Thanks again to our in-house drone pilot, Jake Ireland. Highlighting our partners on this project: The Town of Queen Creek and the Queen Creek Unified School District, Orcutt | Winslow and Core Construction.
Friday night lights will be on this week at the Mountain Pointe High School's new synthetic football field! Tempe Union High School District and the project team is well on their way to making this field a reality for the school and its students. Both Mountain Pointe and Marcos De Niza football fields utilizes Shaw Sports Turf's "Game On" turf technology. The Lloyd team is looking forward to seeing the stadium filled and field in use at Mountain Pointe's first home game against Chaparrel!
Lloyd Sports + Engineering was a proud sponsor at this year's AIAAA State Conference that occurred this past weekend at the Prescott Convention Center. Team members Justin Peterson and Zach Plum participated in the Sunday morning golf tournament, and later joined colleague Valerie Ahyong at the vendor expo throughout the remainder of the conference. Congratulations to Tonya Lee, Athletic Director, Youngker High School, of Buckeye Union High School District for winning the Yeti backpack cooler that Lloyd gifted as part of the conference raffle. And a big thank you to all of the AD/Coaches and Vendors who stopped by our booth to meet our team. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year!

Throughout the design process the client has had a very clear vision for the spaces they wanted included in the soccer facility. One specific element was a 10’ tall technique wall for athletes to practice kicking against. How does one incorporate a 10’ tall wall without blocking visibility or creating long runs of ramps or stairs? Although this site looks decently flat to the naked eye, there is actually about 15’ of grade change from south to north, which worked to our advantage when locating the Technique Wall. We used the wall to lower the Heart, Mind, and Body fields and create a specific technical training space. For the final design, the wall is slightly smaller at 8’ tall. In addition, it is only retaining 4’ of soil with 4’ of wall above grade for fall protection. This wall ended up being about 250’ in length. That’s about 2000sf of wall to kick against. Imagine all the students a coach can have kicking against that!
