Lloyd provided general civil engineering and sports design for this award winning spring training facility, located on 140-acres of SRPMIC land. The facility, shared by the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies, is centered around an 11,000-seat open-air stadium complete with vending and retail areas, restrooms, private suites, and concourses. The project includes 13 baseball fields with premium turf, rootzone, and drainage systems and are designed for professional competition. Each team occupies its own training grounds with state-of-the-art clubhouse buildings, practice areas, and secured parking. The site landscaping and baseball fields are irrigated from a large onsite lake.
Civil engineering services included grading and drainage, infrastructure, and roadway design, in addition to sports engineering which included design of the professional playing fields. This project is the first LEED Gold-certified sports venue of its kind in the United States. In 2018, the Lloyd team was hired to assist the AZ Diamondbacks with renovations for both Salt River Fields and Chase Field concurrently, providing design and construction administration services for the conversion of natural grass to synthetic turf at two of the fields at the training complex. #lloyd #lloydsports #lloydengineers #lloydengineering #lloydsportsandengineering #sportsengineering #sportsdesign #fielddesign #sportsfields #grading #drainage #synthetictuf #sports #mlb #springtraining #cactusleague #saltriver #talkingstick #saltriverattalkingstick #azdiamondbacks #arizona #arizonadiamondbacks #coloradorockies #AZ #scottsdale #turfconversion #chasefield #arizonadiamondbacks #LEEDGold #LEED Jake Ireland is one of our designers and dedicated drone pilot out of our Phoenix office. Outside of the office scene of working on various sports and civil projects, you can find Jake hitting the trails throughout Arizona. He enjoys mountain biking and running, and on the weekends you can find him on a 12-hour solo mountain bike race if there is one! But we wanted to highlight Jake with his recent accomplishment with his friends on completing the Black Canyon Ultras Marathon. This event is a 62 mile (100K) distance trail run, which Jake completed in 16 hours and 22 minutes, out of the 20 hour allotted time given to all racers. He finished 514 out of 704 racers that actually completed the course! Congratulations Jake! #lloyd #lloydsports #lloydsportsandengineering #lloydengineers #jakeireland #teammemberhighlight #civildesigner #sportsdesigner We love seeing our team members stay involved with their alma matter, especially giving back to the future engineers of our industry. This holds especially true for Sam Wise, PE, who is an alumni from the University of Nevada - Reno (UNR). See his recent involvement on the CREATE program, and his transition from land development to the sports engineering world.
-- Earlier this month , I had the privilege to sit on an engineering industry panel for the University of Nevada – Reno (UNR) College of Engineering. This panel was put together as part of the CREATE program: Creating Retention and Engagement for Academically Talented Engineers. This program funded by the National Science Foundation, supports students enrolled at the College of Engineering. Representing the Civil Engineer on the panel, I was joined by other in fields including software/computer science, mechanical engineering, materials science, aerospace, electrical engineering, and environmental engineering. In a classroom with about 30 upcoming graduates, we discussed what a new graduate can expect in the industry, how to approach interviews, work-life balance, remote vs in-person work, and more. Sharing our personal experiences of working in industry helps the students imagine what to expect when moving away from a full academic driven lifestyle. As an alumnus of UNR, graduating in the Fall of 2015, I quickly moved into the consulting industry with my first job as a civil designer in land development in December 2015. There I worked to obtain me PE license and sharpen my skills as a designer & engineer. I ended that role with transitioning over to Lloyd Sports + Engineering in September 2020, which utilizes a fully remote work environment. During the panel I was able to share my unique experience of going from an in-person work environment to one that is fully remote and discuss concerns that new graduates when entering the work industry. Events like this help usher the next generation of engineers to their future careers so that they may be better suited to serve themselves and the community. #lloyd #lloydsports #lloydsportsandengineering #sportsengineering #sportsdesign #sports #sportsplanning #engineering #engineers #nationalengineersweek #sportsengineer #UNR #UniversityofNevada #UniversityofNevadaReno #UNRAlumni #CREATE #futureengineers #academics #engineersweek #professionalengineer Lloyd Sports + Engineering once again proudly sponsored a hole at the Tempe Union High School Foundation's Annual Golf Tournament that was held at the Arizona Grand Golf Course in Phoenix, AZ this past Thursday. This is Lloyd's third year supporting the golf tournament which helps raise funds to support various school and teacher projects across the district. The Lloyd team delivered a fun experience as foursomes approached hole 5, playing a ball toss game to win prizes. Participants had to either throw a football, toss a soccer ball, or chip a golf ball into one of three buckets, with the opportunity to win individual gift cards, swag, or a mulligan for their team. Our team later joined the players and the TUHSD Foundation at the awards lunch, and celebrated the successful event, sponsors, and tournament/raffle winners. Congrats to the various TUHSD staff and ADs who took a handful of awards home that day! |
