The final square foot of new sod has been laid and the final touches are underway on the completion of major modernization to the playing surface inside of Bryant- Denny Stadium. Not since 1991, has the playing field received such a massive update. Lloyd Sports + Engineering has been proud to be the designer and engineer of record bringing the new surface up to NFL standards and beyond.
In full partnership with the University and the build team from Precision Turf, Lloyd Engineering led the evaluation and replacement of every system in and under the arena floor from sideline to sideline from endzone to endzone. The work included upgrading and replacing elements of the Stadium infrastructure including: sanitary sewer lines, storm drain lines, broadcast connections, instant replay communication and team sidelines services (voice, data, power, drinking water, cooling/heated team benches). Overall the work exceeds the playing field requirements of the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the NCCA, and the NFL in the areas of player safety, security and sports performance. The improvements include a cushioned synthetic turf sideline zone gaining popularity in both collegiate, professional, and international stadiums as well as non-slip surfacing from the playing field to the team locker rooms. The new natural grass playing surface includes the most update undrain system and engineering materials to maximize turf vigor and meet any challenge the teams or weather can throw its way. The field was also outfitted with new forced air ventilation and vacuum assisted mechanical drainage system capability for sucking water from the playing system profile or forcing fresh air, or heated air through the growing media. The modernization and improvements, along with great care led by Head Sports Field Manager Mr. Jon DeWitt, will deliver one of the playing surfaces in the world and be ready to handle the extended NCAA playoff schedule which includes games on Campus sites in the coming years. ROLL TIDE. Lloyd Sports + Engineering will be at the AASBO Conference in Tucson, Arizona, from July 19th - 21st. The conference will be held at the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa. Lloyd team members Justin Peterson and Valerie Ahyong will be in attendance as a table exhibitor at the expo. Stop by and say hello!
Construction is moving quickly within the walls of Bryant-Denny Stadium at the University of Alabama. The new field design provides synthetic turf sidelines to better withstand the heavy traffic experienced on game day allowing UA's field crew more time dedicated to the field of play. The synthetic turf started going down early last week and sod followed shortly behind with installation taking place this week. These photos were taken and provided by Bryant Denny Stadium's Field Crew during and after day 1 of Precision Turf's sod install.

Lloyd is the sports engineering subconsultant to Dig Studios for this project that will include 10 multi-use natural grass fields and a baseball quad at the existing Red Mountain Park site. Valley Rain Construction is the GC on the project.
